EU Phase out of Incandescent Bulbs

The EU has decided to phase out conventional incandescent bulbs to reduce CO2 emissions (by about 15 million tonnes a year).

How are ineffiecient light bulbs being phased out?

Household bulbs that do not meet the new EU energy efficiency requirements are gradually being phased out before 2012:

  • All non-clear incandescent bulbs have already been withdrawn.
  • Clear incandescent bulbs are being phased out gradually. Those of 60W or more have already been phased out. This limit will become 40w in September 2012
